Sometimes you get a beer that is amazing, other times you get a beer that just doesn’t taste good. While a lot of taste is a matter of personal preference, there is often a specific reason why a beer can seem “off”.
Learning to recognize common off flavors can help to pinpoint problems in brewing processes, or just generally increase the chance that you order a beer that will taste great.
In this workshop we will learn about ten common off flavors in beer by tasting samples of beer dosed with common off flavors.
The flavors we will taste include:
Diacetly, Lightstruck, Mercaptan, Metallic, Papery, Phenolic, Sour, H2S, DMS, and Butyric
Not all of these flavors are necessarily flaws, they can be appropriate in some style of beer and we will provide examples of these styles where appropriate.
This workshop is geared toward home brewers/brewers, bartenders/servers, and beer enthusiasts who want to deepen there knowledge of beer flavors and analysis.
The workshop will be lead by Archie Rinck (beer aficionado/bar tender at The International) and Dino Rossi (brewer at 4i/general beer nerd)
